Since the 1970s, a records management team within the Massachusetts state secretary's Public Records Division provided services such as appraising records, conducting record surveys, and developing and interpreting records retention schedules for state agencies and county and municipal entities. Since 1982, this Records Management Unit has operated as part of the Massachusetts Archives, the repository for all Massachusetts permanent state public records. Series consists of a newsletter published monthly since March 2020 by the Archives and the Records Management Unit to provide information and advice on topics of current interest to public records managers of the Commonwealth at the municipal, county, and state levels, with special emphasis on records in digital form.
