The Executive Office of Education, a successor to the Dept. of Education, Board of Regents of Higher Education, and associated bodies, was established in 2008. Through departments of early education and care, elementary and secondary education, and higher education, each directed by a commissioner, the office, headed by a secretary of education, works to connect programs and policies across the entire public education system of Massachusetts.
